Ingredients for Basmati Rice
Method
Directions to Cook Basmati Rice
- 1
- 2
Soak the Rice
Transfer the rinsed rice to a bowl and cover it with water. Let it soak for at least 30 minutes. Soaking the rice helps it cook more evenly and enhances its texture.
- 3
Prepare the Cooking Liquid
In a medium saucepan, combine 2 cups of fresh water and 0.5 tsp of salt. If using, add 1 tablespoon of butter or oil for added flavor. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.
- 4
Add the Rice
Once the water is boiling, drain the soaked rice and add it to the saucepan. Stir gently to prevent sticking.
- 5
Cook the Rice
Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan with a tight-fitting lid, and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes. Avoid lifting the lid during cooking, as this can release steam and affect the cooking process.
- 6
Fluff and Serve
After 15-20 minutes, turn off the heat and let the rice sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes. Then, remove the lid and fluff the rice gently with a fork. Serve warm as a side dish or as a base for your favorite curries and stews.
