Prepare the Cake
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. In another large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla. Gradually add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk, until fully combined. Pour the batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.

Once the cake has cooled, poke holes all over the top with a fork. Slowly pour the tres leches mixture over the cake, allowing it to soak in. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.
