Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking dish.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and sugar until well combined.

  3. 3

    Cream Butter and Add Eggs

In a separate bowl, cream the softened butter until fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cake

Remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan on a wire rack for about 15 minutes.

Tres Leches Mixture Preparation

  1. 7

    Combine Milks

In a medium bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and whole milk until smooth.

  2. 8

    Soak the Cake

Once the cake has cooled, pierce the surface with a fork or toothpick multiple times. Slowly pour the tres leches mixture over the cake, allowing it to absorb the liquid.

  3. 9

    Refrigerate

Cover the cake and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow it to soak up the milk.

Topping Preparation

  1. 10

    Whip Cream

In a mixing bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream with an electric mixer until it begins to thicken. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, continuing to beat until soft peaks form.

  2. 11

    Top the Cake

Spread the whipped cream over the top of the soaked cake. Optionally sprinkle with cinnamon.
