Method
Prepare Bread Pudding
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it's ready for baking.
- 2
Prepare the Bread
Cut the stale bread into cubes and place them in a large mixing bowl.
- 3
Combine Liquid Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
- 4
Mix the Pudding
Pour the liquid mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring they are fully coated. If using, add in raisins, nuts, or chocolate chips. Allow it to sit for 15 minutes to let the bread absorb the liquid.
- 5
Transfer to Baking Dish
Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish and pour the bread mixture into the dish, spreading it evenly.
Bake the Pudding
- 6
Bake
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the pudding is set and the top is golden brown.
- 7
Cool
Remove from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
Prepare Sauce
- 8
Make the Sauce
In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the brown sugar and heavy cream, and bring to a simmer. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens slightly. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
Serve
- 9
Serve the Bread Pudding
Slice the bread pudding into squares and serve warm, drizzled with the warm sauce.
