Bun Ingredients

Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water (1.5 cups) and sugar (2 tbsp). Sprinkle the active dry yeast (2 tsp) on top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour (4 cups) and salt (1 tbsp). Mix well to ensure the salt is evenly distributed.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Add the activated yeast mixture and melted unsalted butter (1 tbsp) to the dry ingredients. Also, add the egg (1 large). Mix until a shaggy dough forms.

Kneading and Rising

  1. 4

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.

  2. 5

    First Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.

Shaping and Baking

  1. 6

    Shape the Buns

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and flatten slightly to form the bun shape.

  2. 7

    Second Rise

Place the shaped buns on a lined baking sheet, cover with a cloth, and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes.

  3. 8

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  4. 9

    Add Toppings

Before baking, brush the tops of the buns with water or egg wash and sprinkle sesame seeds (2 tbsp) on top.

  5. 10

    Bake

Bake the buns in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown.

  6. 11

    Cool

Remove the buns from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack before serving.
