Method

Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

Fill a large pot with water, add 1 tsp of salt, and bring it to a rolling boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Once the water is boiling, add 200 grams of spaghetti. Cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes, until al dente.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti into a colander and set aside, reserving a cup of pasta water.

Making Marinara Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté Vegetables

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add 1 finely chopped onion and 3 minced garlic cloves. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Stir in 400 grams of crushed canned tomatoes, 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken.

  3. 6

    Add Fresh Basil

In the last 5 minutes of cooking, stir in 10 grams of chopped fresh basil for added flavor.

Combining and Serving

  1. 7

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained spaghetti to the marinara sauce, tossing gently to combine. If the sauce is too thick, add a little reserved pasta water to reach the desired consistency.

  2. 8

    Serve

Plate the pasta, and garnish with 30 grams of grated Parmesan cheese and a couple of fresh basil leaves. Serve hot.
