Meatballs

Marinara Sauce

Method

Meatballs Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, egg, and chopped parsley. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.

  2. 2

    Form Meatballs

Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  3. 3

    Bake Meatballs

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the meatballs for 20-25 minutes or until cooked through and browned on the outside.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 4

    Sauté Garlic

In a pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Add the crushed tomatoes, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar to the pot. Stir well to combine.

  3. 6

    Simmer Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Sub Assembly

  1. 7

    Prepare Sub Rolls

Slice the sub rolls in half lengthwise without cutting all the way through. Toast them lightly in the oven if desired.

  2. 8

    Assemble Meatball Subs

Place 3-4 meatballs in each sub roll. Spoon marinara sauce generously over the meatballs, and top with shredded mozzarella cheese.

  3. 9

    Melt Cheese

Place the assembled subs back in the oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  4. 10

    Garnish and Serve

If desired, garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving. Serve hot.
