Directions

  1. 1

    Boil the Water

In a small pot or kettle, bring 1 cup of fresh, filtered water to a boil. Ensure that the water reaches a temperature of about 175°F (80°C) for optimal green tea infusion.

  2. 2

    Add Green Tea Leaves

Place 2 teaspoons of green tea leaves into a tea infuser or directly into your teapot. If using loose leaves, a fine mesh strainer will help in serving.

  3. 3

    Pour Water Over Leaves

Once the water has boiled, remove it from heat and let it cool for about 30 seconds. Pour the hot water over the green tea leaves.

  4. 4

    Steep the Tea

Allow the tea to steep for 2-3 minutes. Steeping for too long can make the tea bitter, so keep an eye on the time.

  5. 5

    Add Optional Ingredients

If desired, add honey for sweetness or a slice of lemon for a refreshing citrus flavor.

  6. 6

    Serve and Enjoy

Remove the tea leaves or strainer from the pot. Pour the tea into a cup and enjoy your traditional Japanese green tea.
