Meatballs

Marinara Sauce

Method

Meatballs

  1. 1

    Prepare the Meatball Mixture

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined.

  2. 2

    Shape the Meatballs

Using your hands, form the mixture into meatballs about 1 inch in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  3. 3

    Bake the Meatballs

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the meatballs for 20-25 minutes or until cooked through and browned.

Marinara Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté the Aromatics

In a large saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.

  2. 5

    Simmer the Sauce

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and let cook for about 20 minutes. Stir in chopped fresh basil just before serving.

Sandwich Assembly

  1. 6

    Assemble the Sandwiches

Cut the sub rolls in half and place cooked meatballs on the bottom half. Top with marinara sauce, slices of provolone cheese, and a sprinkle of grated Romano cheese.

  2. 7

    Melt the Cheese

Place the assembled sandwiches under a broiler for 1-2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  3. 8

    Serve

Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and serve warm with additional marinara sauce on the side if desired.
