Method
Prepare Fries
- 1
Bake the Fries
Preheat your oven according to the instructions on the frozen French fries package. Spread the fries in a single layer on a baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil, and sprinkle salt, black pepper, and garlic powder evenly over the fries. Toss to coat and bake until golden and crispy, usually about 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through.
Cook Steak and Toppings
- 2
Season the Steak
While the fries are baking, season the flank steak with salt and black pepper on both sides.
- 3
Cook the Steak
Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned steak and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or to your desired doneness. Remove from the skillet and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing thinly against the grain.

Assemble Cheesesteak Fries
- 5
Combine and Serve
Once the fries are done baking, take them out of the oven. Layer the fries on a serving plate, top with the sliced steak, sautéed onions, mushrooms, and finally sprinkle the shredded white American cheese evenly over the top. Optionally, return to the oven for 2-3 minutes to melt the cheese. Serve hot.
