Serving Ingredients

Method

Meatball Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Meatball Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, eggs, minced garlic, chopped parsley, grated Parmesan cheese, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

  2. 2

    Form Meatballs

Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter. Place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.

  3. 3

    Bake Meatballs

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the meatballs for 20-25 minutes or until cooked through and browned on the outside.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 4

    Sauté Aromatics

In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute.

  2. 5

    Simmer Sauce

Stir in crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

  3. 6

    Add Meatballs

Gently add the baked meatballs into the simmering marinara sauce. Cover and let them simmer together for another 10 minutes.

Serving Preparation

  1. 7

    Prepare for Serving

While the meatballs are simmering, prepare the serving ingredients. Slice the provolone cheese and set out the Romano cheese in a shaker.

  2. 8

    Assemble Meatball Bar

Serve the meatballs in marinara sauce with baked rolls on the side. Allow guests to assemble their meatball sandwiches, topping with provolone and Romano cheese as desired.
