Steak

Method

Steak

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Take the 10 oz. Prime Cut New York Strip steak out of the refrigerator and let it rest at room temperature for about 30 minutes before cooking.

  2. 2

    Season the Steak

Rub the steak with olive oil, then season generously with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder on both sides.

  3. 3

    Cook the Steak

Preheat a grill or cast-iron skillet over high heat. Once hot, place the steak on the grill or skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until the desired doneness is reached.

  4. 4

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from heat and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing.

Fries

  1. 5

    Prepare the Potatoes

Wash and peel the russet potatoes. Cut them into thin strips to resemble fries.

  2. 6

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  3. 7

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully place the cut potatoes into the hot oil in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes.

  4. 8

    Drain and Season

Remove the fries from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Season with salt immediately while hot.

Gravy

  1. 9

    Make the Roux

In a saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for about 2-3 minutes until it turns a light golden color.

  2. 10

    Add Broth

Gradually whisk in the beef broth, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to cook, stirring constantly, until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 11

    Season the Gravy

Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Remove from heat and set aside.
