Method
For the Citrus Cream Cheese Filling
- 1
Prepare the Filling
In a medium bowl, combine the cream cheese, powdered sugar, orange zest, lemon zest, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
For the French Toast
- 2
Prepare the French Toast Mixture
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
- 3
Slice the French Bread
Cut the loaf of French bread into thick slices, about 1 to 1.5 inches each. Make a pocket in each slice by slicing halfway through.
- 4
Stuff the Bread
Carefully fill each pocket in the bread slices with the citrus cream cheese filling, ensuring it is evenly distributed.
- 5
Cook the French Toast
In a large skillet or griddle, melt butter over medium heat. Dip each stuffed bread slice into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for a few seconds on each side. Cook each slice in the skillet for 3-4 minutes on each side, until golden brown and cooked through.
For the Caramel Berry Compote
- 6
Make the Compote
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the mixed berries, brown sugar, and butter. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the berries have released their juices and the mixture has thickened slightly. Stir in the vanilla extract and remove from heat.
