Shrimp Preparation

Method

Shrimp Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Shrimp

In a bowl, season the peeled and deveined shrimp with salt and black pepper. Set aside.

  2. 2

    Set Up Breading Station

In three separate bowls, place the all-purpose flour, beaten egg, and panko breadcrumbs.

  3. 3

    Bread the Shrimp

Dredge each shrimp in flour, then dip in the egg, and finally coat with panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or pot, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Shrimp

Fry the breaded shrimp in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Roll Assembly

  1. 6

    Prepare the Sushi Rice

If not already done, cook sushi rice according to package instructions and season with rice vinegar, sugar, and salt.

  2. 7

    Lay Out the Nori

Place a sheet of nori on a bamboo sushi mat or a clean cutting board with the shiny side facing down.

  3. 8

    Add Sushi Rice

Wet your hands to prevent sticking, then spread about ½ cup of sushi rice evenly over the nori, leaving 1 inch at the top edge.

  4. 9

    Layer Ingredients

In the center of the rice, arrange a few pieces of fried shrimp, a few slices of avocado, and julienned cucumber. Add a small dollop of wasabi.

  5. 10

    Roll the Sushi

Using the sushi mat, carefully roll the nori away from you, tucking in the filling as you go. Roll tightly to form a log shape.

  6. 11

    Slice the Roll

Using a sharp knife, slice the roll into 6-8 pieces. Wipe the knife with a damp cloth between cuts for clean edges.

  7. 12

    Serve

Drizzle sesame ginger sauce over the sliced rolls and sprinkle with red pepper flakes before serving.
