Method

Pie Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Pie Crust

In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, and granulated sugar. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until dough forms a ball. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Filling

In another bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Let the mixture sit for about 15 minutes.

  3. 3

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  4. 4

    Assemble the Pie

Roll out half of the pie dough on a floured surface and place it in a 9-inch pie dish. Fill with the apple mixture. Roll out the second half of the dough and place it over the filling. Cut slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.

  5. 5

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 35-40 minutes, or until the apples are soft and the crust is golden brown.

  6. 6

    Prepare Caramel Sauce

While the pie is baking, prepare the caramel sauce by melting 1 cup of sugar in a saucepan over medium heat until golden brown. Carefully add 6 tablespoons of butter and 1/2 cup of heavy cream, stirring until smooth. Allow to cool slightly.

  7. 7

    Serve

Let the pie cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing. Drizzle with caramel sauce before serving.
