Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the beef patty

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently with your hands until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the patties

Divide the beef mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a round patty, about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to help it cook evenly.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Cook the patties

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip them over and place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty. Cook for another 3-4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the patty reaches your desired doneness.

  2. 4

    Toast the buns

While the patties are cooking, cut the burger buns in half and toast them on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

Assembly

  1. 5

    Assemble the burger

Place a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Add the cooked patty with melted cheese on top of the lettuce. Slice the tomato and place it on top of the patty. Add ketchup and mustard to taste, then place the top half of the bun on the burger.
