Dough Ingredients

Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yogurt, activated yeast mixture, and oil.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Mix until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.

Cooking the Naan

  1. 5

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to the highest setting (around 500°F or 260°C) and place a baking stone or tray inside to heat.

  2. 6

    Shape the Naan

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten it out into an oval shape.

  3. 7

    Cook the Naan

Place the rolled naan on the preheated baking stone or tray. Bake for 2-3 minutes or until puffed and golden brown.

  4. 8

    Brush with Butter

Remove from the oven and immediately brush with melted butter. If desired, sprinkle with minced garlic and chopped cilantro.

  5. 9

    Serve

Serve warm with your favorite curry or dish.
