Cooking Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Marinade
In a bowl, mix together brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper to create a dry rub.
- 2
Rub the Pork
Coat the pork shoulder generously with the dry rub mixture, ensuring all sides are covered. Allow it to marinate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.
- 3
Cook the Pork
Place the pork shoulder in a slow cooker. Add apple cider vinegar and water around the meat. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or until the meat is tender and easily shredded.
- 4
Shred the Pork
Once the pork is cooked, remove it from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Discard any excess fat.
- 5
Mix with Barbecue Sauce
Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and mix it with barbecue sauce. Let it cook for an additional 30 minutes on low to warm up the sauce.
- 6
Serve
Serve the pulled pork on buns, topped with extra barbecue sauce or coleslaw if desired.
