Fried Cheese Curds
Method
Preparation and Cooking
- 1
Prepare the Ranch Dressing
In a small bowl, mix 1 cup of sour cream, 1/2 cup of mayonnaise, 1 tsp of dried dill, 1 tsp of garlic powder, and salt and pepper to taste. Set aside in the refrigerator.
- 2
Prepare the Breading
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- 3
Mix Wet Ingredients
In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and the egg until well combined.
- 4
Coat the Cheese Curds
Dip the cheese curds into the wet mixture, letting any excess drip off, then dredge them in the dry mixture until fully coated.
- 5
Heat the Oil
In a deep pan or fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- 6
Fry the Cheese Curds
Carefully add the breaded cheese curds to the hot oil in batches. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per batch.
- 7
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried cheese curds with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with the homemade ranch dressing.
