Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the cornmeal, all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Whisk together until well mixed.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 cup of milk and 1 large egg. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.

  4. 4

    Add Melted Butter

Melt 1/4 cup of unsalted butter and fold it into the batter until evenly incorporated.

  5. 5

    Pour into Baking Dish

Grease a baking dish or cast-iron skillet. Pour the batter into the prepared dish, spreading it evenly.

  6. 6

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool and Serve

Allow to cool for a few minutes before cutting into squares or wedges. Serve warm with butter or honey.
