Directions
- 1
Prepare the Onions
Slice the onion into thin rings. In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the onion slices and a pinch of salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are caramelized and golden brown, about 10-15 minutes.
- 2
Form the Patties
While the onions are cooking, season the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Divide the beef into two equal portions and shape them into burger patties.
- 3
Cook the Patties
In a separate skillet, heat the remaining tablespoon of butter over medium-high heat. Add the burger patties and cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side, then flip and place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty. Cook for another 3-4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the burger is cooked to your desired doneness.
- 4
Assemble the Patty Melt
To assemble, place a cooked patty with melted cheese on one slice of rye bread, top with caramelized onions, and cover with another slice of bread. Repeat for the second patty melt.
