Calamari

Method

Calamari Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Calamari

Clean and slice the calamari into rings. Pat them dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Breading Station

In a bowl, mix all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. In another bowl, whisk together eggs and milk.

  3. 3

    Bread the Calamari

Dip each calamari ring first into the egg mixture, then coat with the flour mixture. Shake off any excess flour.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F (190°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Calamari

Fry the calamari rings in batches for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 6

    Sauté the Garlic

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  2. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.

  3. 8

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

  4. 9

    Finish with Fresh Basil

Stir in fresh basil leaves just before serving. Remove from heat.
