Preparation of Ingredients

  1. 1

    Cook Lasagna Noodles

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the lasagna noodles and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare Meat Sauce

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Add chopped onion and minced garlic; sauté until the onion is translucent. Stir in the canned tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes.

  3. 3

    Mix Cheese Filling

In a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, Parmesan cheese, and chopped fresh basil. Mix until smooth and well combined.

Assembling Lasagna

  1. 4

    Layer Ingredients

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Layer 4 lasagna noodles over the sauce, followed by half of the ricotta mixture, then another layer of meat sauce. Repeat the layers with another 4 noodles, the remaining ricotta mixture, and a final layer of meat sauce.

  2. 5

    Add Top Layer

Place the last 4 noodles on top, and spread the remaining meat sauce over them. Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese evenly on top.

Baking

  1. 6

    Bake the Lasagna

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden. Let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
