Method

Preparing the Steak

  1. 1

    Tenderize the Steak

Place the beef round steak on a cutting board. Use a meat mallet to tenderize the steak until it is about 1/2 inch thick. Season both sides with salt and black pepper.

Breading the Steak

  1. 2

    Set Up Breading Station

In one shallow bowl, place the flour. In a second bowl, beat together the eggs and milk. In a third bowl, combine breadcrumbs and paprika.

  2. 3

    Bread the Steak

Dredge the tenderized steak in flour, shaking off excess. Dip in the egg mixture, then coat with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.

Frying the Steak

  1. 4

    Heat Oil

In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 5

    Fry the Steak

Carefully place the breaded steak in the hot oil. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.

Making the Gravy

  1. 6

    Make Roux

In the same skillet used to fry the steak, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for about 1-2 minutes until it turns golden brown.

  2. 7

    Add Milk and Season

Slowly whisk in the milk, stir continuously until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Serving

  1. 8

    Plate the Dish

Serve the fried steak hot, drizzled with the country gravy. Enjoy!
