Cake Ingredients

Method

Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Oven and Pans

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well blended.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat for 2 minutes on medium speed. Stir in boiling water (the batter will be thin).

  4. 4

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  5. 5

    Cool the Cake

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on wire racks.

Frosting Directions

  1. 6

    Make the Frosting

In a large bowl, cream the softened butter until smooth. Gradually add cocoa powder and confectioners' sugar, alternating with milk, and beat until creamy. Stir in vanilla extract.

  2. 7

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate and spread frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
