Bavarian Pretzels
Method
Preparation
- 1
Make the Dough
In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Mix in the melted butter and salt. Gradually add flour, mixing until a dough forms.
- 2
- 3
Shape the Pretzels
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope and twist into a pretzel shape. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 4
Prepare Baking Soda Bath
In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water to a boil and stir in the baking soda. Carefully add the pretzels, one at a time, to the boiling water for about 30 seconds. Remove with a slotted spoon and place back on the baking sheet.
- 5
Bake the Pretzels
Sprinkle the pretzels with coarse sea salt and bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- 6
Serve
Allow to cool slightly before serving with Spicy Beer Mustard. Optionally, serve with House Cheese Sauce for an additional charge.
