Ingredients
Pretzel Dough
Preparation
1. Activate Yeast
In a large bowl, combine warm water, active dry yeast, and sugar. Stir gently and let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
2. Mix Dough
Add flour, salt, and melted butter to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
3. First Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
4. Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
5. Shape Pretzels
Once risen, divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope and shape into a pretzel.
6. Baking Soda Bath
In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil. Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on the prepared baking sheet.
7. Final Touches
Sprinkle the top of each pretzel with coarse sea salt.
8. Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
