Prepare the Marinade
In a large bowl, combine yogurt, minced garlic, minced ginger, cumin powder, turmeric powder, chili powder, and salt. Add the chicken thighs and coat them thoroughly. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight for best results.

Add the Spices
Add crushed cardamom pods to the onions and sauté for an additional 2 minutes until fragrant.

Cook the Chicken
Add the marinated chicken to the pan and cook until browned on all sides, about 10 minutes.

Add Tomato Puree and Coconut Milk
Stir in the tomato puree and coconut milk, bringing the mixture to a gentle simmer. Cover and cook for 20-25 minutes, until the chicken is fully cooked and tender.

Finish with Butter
Stir in the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and adjust seasoning with salt if necessary. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.
