Calamari

Method

Preparation of Calamari

  1. 1

    Clean the Calamari

Rinse the calamari under cold water and remove the innards. Cut the tentacles and the body into rings. Pat dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Breading

In a bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Beat the Eggs

In another bowl, beat the eggs until well mixed.

  4. 4

    Bread the Calamari

Dip the calamari rings into the egg mixture, then dredge in the flour mixture until fully coated.

Frying the Calamari

  1. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F (190°C).

  2. 6

    Fry the Calamari

Fry the calamari in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  3. 7

    Drain and Serve

Remove the fried calamari with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Season with salt to taste.

Preparation of Marinara Sauce

  1. 8

    Sauté the Garlic

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 9

    Add Tomatoes and Spices

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  3. 10

    Finish the Sauce

Remove from heat and stir in chopped parsley before serving.

Serving

  1. 11

    Serve the Dish

Plate the fried calamari with a side of marinara sauce for dipping. Enjoy your delicious calamari!
