Preparation of the Topping

Chop the Tomatoes
Dice the fresh tomatoes into small pieces and place them into a mixing bowl.

Mince the Garlic
Finely mince the garlic cloves and add them to the bowl with the diced tomatoes.

Add Basil and Seasoning
Tear the fresh basil leaves into smaller pieces and add them to the bowl. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Mix the Topping
Gently toss all the ingredients in the bowl until well combined.

Slice the Bread
Cut the baguette or Italian bread into 1/2 inch thick slices.

Toast the Bread
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the bread slices on a baking sheet and brush one side with olive oil. Toast in the oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.

Top the Toast
Remove the toasted bread from the oven and allow to cool slightly. Spoon the tomato topping generously onto the oiled side of each slice.

Serve the bruschetta immediately, garnished with additional basil if desired.
