Steak Ingredients

Method

Steak Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Cast Iron Skillet

Place a cast iron skillet on the stovetop and preheat it over high heat for about 10 minutes until it's extremely hot.

  2. 2

    Season the Steak

Generously season both sides of the N.Y. Strip Steak with kosher salt and black pepper.

  3. 3

    Sear the Steak

Add olive oil to the hot skillet. Once it begins to shimmer, carefully place the steak in the skillet. Sear for about 4-5 minutes on one side without moving it.

  4. 4

    Flip the Steak

Using tongs, flip the steak and add butter, garlic cloves, and thyme to the skillet. Cook for an additional 4-5 minutes, basting the steak with the melted butter.

  5. 5

    Check for Doneness

Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. For medium-rare, aim for 130°F (54°C). Remove from heat once desired temperature is reached.

  6. 6

    Rest the Steak

Transfer the steak to a plate and let it rest for about 5-10 minutes before slicing.

  7. 7

    Serve

Slice the steak against the grain and serve with your choice of side.
