Method

Directions

  1. 1

    Cook the Macaroni

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add 2 cups of elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually around 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Cheese Sauce

In the same pot, melt 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Once melted, add 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour, whisking constantly for about 1-2 minutes until the mixture is bubbly and light golden in color.

  3. 3

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in 2 cups of milk, continuing to stir to prevent lumps. Cook for about 5 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly.

  4. 4

    Add Cheese and Seasonings

Reduce the heat to low, then add 2 cups of sharp cheddar cheese, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 teaspoon of garlic powder. Stir until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth.

  5. 5

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained macaroni to the cheese sauce, stirring until the pasta is evenly coated in the sauce.

  6. 6

    Prepare for Baking

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the mac and cheese mixture to a greased baking dish.

  7. 7

    Top with Breadcrumbs

In a small bowl, mix 1 cup of bread crumbs with 1 teaspoon of paprika. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the macaroni and cheese in the baking dish.

  8. 8

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.

  9. 9

    Serve

Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your homemade macaroni and cheese!
