Method
Cake
- 1
Prepare the Oven and Pan
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- 3
Combine Wet Ingredients
In another bowl, beat together the granulated sugar and eggs until light and fluffy. Then add in the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.
- 4
Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- 5
Bake the Cake
Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Tres Leches Mixture
- 6
Prepare Tres Leches Mixture
In a medium bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and whole milk until smooth.
- 7
Soak the Cake
Once the cake has cooled for about 10 minutes, poke holes all over the top using a fork. Pour the tres leches mixture evenly over the cake, allowing it to soak in. Let it sit for at least 2 hours or overnight in the refrigerator.
Caramel Whipped Cream
- 8
Whip the Cream
In a large mixing bowl, beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, caramel sauce, and vanilla extract together until soft peaks form.
Candied Pecans
- 9
Prepare the Pecans
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the pecans, granulated sugar, water, and salt. Stir to combine.
- 10
Candy the Pecans
Cook the mixture, stirring frequently, until the sugar dissolves and the mixture comes to a boil. Continue to cook until the pecans are coated and the sugar crystallizes, about 5-7 minutes. Spread the pecans onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper to cool.
