Sandwich Assembly

Method

Preparing the Chicken

  1. 1

    Marinate the Chicken

In a large bowl, soak the chicken breasts in buttermilk for at least 2 hours (or overnight) in the refrigerator to tenderize and flavor the chicken.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Breading

In a shallow dish, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Bread the Chicken

Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge each breast in the seasoned flour mixture, ensuring they are fully coated. Shake off any excess flour.

  4. 4

    Fry the Chicken

In a heavy skillet, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Carefully add the breaded chicken breasts and fry for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).

  5. 5

    Drain the Chicken

Once cooked, transfer the chicken to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Making the Alabama White BBQ Sauce

  1. 6

    Combine Ingredients

In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, horseradish, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and hot sauce until smooth and well blended.

  2. 7

    Chill the Sauce

Cover and refrigerate the sauce for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Assembling the Sandwich

  1. 8

    Prepare the Buns

Toast the burger buns lightly, if desired.

  2. 9

    Build the Sandwich

Spread a generous amount of Alabama white BBQ sauce on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Place a piece of fried chicken on top, followed by pickles, lettuce, and slices of tomato. Add more sauce on top of the ingredients if desired, then cover with the top half of the bun.

  3. 10

    Serve

Serve the Alabama chicken sandwiches immediately while hot, with extra BBQ sauce on the side if desired.
