Chicken Preparation

Nashville Hot Sauce (optional)

Method

Chicken Preparation

  1. 1

    Marinate the Chicken

In a large bowl, combine buttermilk and hot sauce. Add the chicken pieces, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for best results.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Coating

In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper.

  3. 3

    Dredge the Chicken

Remove chicken from the marinade, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture until well coated. Shake off excess flour and set aside.

  4. 4

    Fry the Chicken

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Carefully add chicken pieces in batches, frying until golden brown and cooked through, about 15-18 minutes. Use a thermometer to ensure internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). Drain on paper towels.

Biscuits

  1. 5

    Make the Biscuit Dough

In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Add cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work it into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in milk until just combined.

  2. 6

    Shape and Bake Biscuits

Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently. Pat into a 1-inch thick round. Cut out biscuits using a cutter or glass. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Nashville Hot Sauce (optional)

  1. 7

    Prepare the Hot Sauce

In a small saucepan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Add cayenne pepper, brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, and salt. Stir and cook for about 5 minutes until combined and fragrant.

  2. 8

    Serve

Drizzle the hot sauce over the fried chicken before serving for that signature Nashville flavor.
