Method

Patty Preparation

  1. 1

    Forming the Patty

In a large bowl, take the USDA Prime Chuck and season it with salt and black pepper. Mix gently and form into two equal patties, about ¾ inch thick.

  2. 2

    Cooking the Patty

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium doneness, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.

Onion Jam Preparation

  1. 3

    Sautéing the Onions

Slice the red onions thinly. In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onions and sauté until they become translucent, about 10 minutes.

  2. 4

    Making the Jam

Add the red wine, sugar, and balsamic vinegar to the onions. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens and becomes jam-like.

Assembly

  1. 5

    Assemble the Burger

Cut the locally baked buns in half. Place a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun, followed by the cooked patty. Top with a slice of tomato, a slice of cheese (if using), and a generous spoonful of the red wine onion jam. Cover with the top half of the bun.

  2. 6

    Serve

Serve the steak burgers immediately with your choice of sides, such as fries or a salad.
