Pretzel Dough

Method

Pretzel Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dough

Add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until the dough begins to come together.

  3. 3

    Knead Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Shaping and Boiling

  1. 5

    Shape Pretzels

Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope, then twist into a pretzel shape.

  2. 6

    Boil Pretzels

In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and the baking soda to a boil. Carefully add pretzels, boiling them for 30 seconds on each side. Remove and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

  3. 7

    Egg Wash and Salt

Brush each pretzel with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.

Baking

  1. 8

    Bake Pretzels

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool slightly.

Queso Dip Preparation

  1. 9

    Combine Ingredients

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes with green chilies, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, and jalapeños (if using).

  2. 10

    Melt and Stir

Stir the mixture continuously until all the cheese is melted and well combined. If the dip is too thick, add more milk until desired consistency.

  3. 11

    Season to Taste

Add cumin and any additional seasonings to taste. Stir well and remove from heat.
