Method

Preparing the Patty

  1. 1

    Forming the Patty

In a mixing bowl, take 1 pound of ground beef and gently form it into two equal 8 oz patties. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent it from puffing up while cooking.

  2. 2

    Cooking the Patty

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Season the patties with salt and pepper. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until they reach your desired level of doneness.

Preparing Toppings

  1. 3

    Chopping Vegetables

Wash and dry the lettuce, then chop it into bite-sized pieces. Slice the tomato and onion into thin rings. Prepare pickles by slicing them into rounds if they aren’t pre-sliced.

  2. 4

    Caramelizing Onions (Optional)

In a skillet over medium heat, add a small amount of oil and sliced onions. Cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.

  3. 5

    Preparing Cheese and Spices

If using, slice the cheeses into pieces. Prepare jalapenos, cherry peppers, and mushrooms according to your preference (slicing, sautéing, etc.).

Assembling the Burger

  1. 6

    Building the Burger

Slice the burger buns in half. On the bottom half, spread mayonnaise, BBQ sauce, or Thousand Island dressing as desired. Place the cooked patty on top, followed by lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles.

  2. 7

    Adding Cheese and Optional Toppings

Add the cheese slice of your choice on top of the patty while it’s still hot, allowing it to melt. Then add any additional toppings such as caramelized onions, jalapenos, cherry peppers, or mushrooms.

  3. 8

    Finishing Touch

Top with the other half of the bun and serve with your favorite side, such as fries or a salad.
