Method

Fried Chicken

  1. 1

    Marinate the Chicken

In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk and 1 tsp of salt. Add the chicken breasts to the bowl, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Breading

In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, remaining salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.

  3. 3

    Dredge the Chicken

Remove the chicken from the buttermilk and let any excess drip off. Dredge each chicken breast in the flour mixture, ensuring an even coating. Shake off excess flour.

  4. 4

    Fry the Chicken

In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot (about 350°F/175°C). Carefully place the chicken in the hot oil and fry for 6-8 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Nashville Hot Sauce

  1. 5

    Make the Sauce

In a small saucepan, combine cayenne pepper, brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Add the vegetable oil and heat over low-medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and set aside.

  2. 6

    Coat the Chicken

Once the chicken is fried, immediately brush or dip the chicken into the Nashville hot sauce, ensuring an even coating.

Slaw

  1. 7

    Prepare the Slaw

In a large bowl, combine shredded green cabbage and shredded carrots. In a separate small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, and black pepper until smooth.

  2. 8

    Mix the Slaw

Pour the dressing over the cabbage and carrots. Toss until well combined. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Assembly

  1. 9

    Assemble the Sandwich

Place the fried chicken on a bun or plate, top with a generous amount of slaw and two slices of dill pickles. Serve immediately.
