Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Prepare the Prime Rib

Season the prime rib roast generously with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Place the roast in a roasting pan and cook for 20 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 325°F (165°C) and continue roasting until the internal temperature reaches 130°F (54°C) for medium-rare, about 1.5 to 2 hours. Let it rest for 20 minutes before slicing.

  2. 2

    Caramelize the Onions

In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Slice the onion and add it to the skillet. Sauté until the onions are golden brown and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Sandwiches

Slice the French rolls in half. Layer each roll with sliced prime rib, a slice of provolone cheese, and some caramelized onions. Place the sandwiches on a baking sheet.

  4. 4

    Melt the Cheese

Place the sandwiches in the oven for about 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and the rolls are toasted.

  5. 5

    Serve with Broth

Heat the beef broth in a pot until simmering. Serve the sandwiches with a small bowl of hot beef broth for dipping.
