    Prepare the Onions

    Peel the onions and slice them into 1/2-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.

    Make the Batter

    In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually whisk in the beer until the batter is smooth and well combined.

    Heat the Oil

    In a deep fryer or a heavy pot, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

    Dip and Fry

    Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off. Carefully place the battered onion rings into the hot oil, frying in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes.

    Drain and Serve

    Using a slotted spoon, remove the onion rings from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with BBQ sauce and ranch dressing on the side.
