Flan Ingredients

Method

Flan Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Caramel

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the granulated sugar with 1/4 cup of water. Cook without stirring until the sugar dissolves and turns a golden amber color. Quickly pour the caramel into a round baking dish, tilting to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool.

  2. 2

    Make the Custard

In a blender, combine the eggs, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Blend until smooth.

  3. 3

    Combine and Bake

Pour the custard mixture over the cooled caramel in the baking dish. Place the baking dish in a larger baking pan and fill the outer pan with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the flan dish. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 50-60 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

  4. 4

    Cool and Serve

Remove the flan from the oven and let it cool in the water bath for 10 minutes. Carefully remove from the water and let it cool to room temperature. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight. To serve, run a knife around the edges, invert onto a plate, and drizzle the caramel sauce on top.
