Prepare the Coffee

Brew the Espresso
Brew 1 cup of strong espresso coffee and let it cool slightly. If desired, mix in 1 tablespoon of coffee liqueur for added flavor.
Make the Mascarpone Cream

Whisk Egg Yolks and Sugar
In a bowl, whisk together 4 egg yolks and 100g of granulated sugar until the mixture is pale and creamy.

Add Mascarpone and Vanilla
Fold in 500g of mascarpone cheese and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract into the egg yolk mixture until smooth.

Whip the Heavy Cream
In a separate bowl, whip 1 cup of heavy cream until soft peaks form.

Combine Mixtures
Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully combined, being careful not to deflate the whipped cream.
Assemble the Tiramisu

Dip Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger biscuit into the cooled espresso mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.

Layer the Tiramisu
In a rectangular dish, layer half of the soaked ladyfingers on the bottom. Spread half of the mascarpone cream over the ladyfingers. Repeat with the remaining ladyfingers and mascarpone cream.

Chill
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
Serve

Dust with Cocoa
Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder and sprinkle with dark chocolate shavings.
