Method

Preparation

  1. 1

Start by washing the broccoli thoroughly under cold running water to remove any dirt or pesticides.

  2. 2

Cut the broccoli into florets, ensuring they are of similar size for even cooking.

  3. 3

If desired, you can peel the stem and cut it into smaller pieces to steam along with the florets.

Steaming

  1. 4

    Prepare the Steamer

Fill a pot with about 1 to 2 inches of water and place a steamer basket on top. Ensure the water does not touch the bottom of the basket.

  2. 5

    Bring Water to a Boil

Cover the pot and bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat.

  3. 6

    Steam the Broccoli

Once the water is boiling, carefully add the broccoli florets to the steamer basket. Cover the pot with a lid.

  4. 7

    Cooking Time

Steam the broccoli for about 5 to 7 minutes, or until the florets are bright green and tender yet still crisp. Avoid overcooking to preserve nutrients and color.

Serving

  1. 8

Once steamed, remove the broccoli from the steamer and place it in a serving bowl.

  2. 9

Drizzle with olive oil and lemon juice, then season with salt and black pepper to taste. Toss gently to combine.

  3. 10

Serve immediately while hot as a side dish or as part of a healthy meal.
