Method

Cooking Rice

  1. 1

    Rinse the Rice

In a fine mesh strainer, rinse 1 cup of jasmine rice under cold running water for about 1-2 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming sticky.

  2. 2

    Boil Water

In a medium saucepan, add 1.5 cups of water and 0.5 tsp of salt. Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat.

  3. 3

    Add Rice

Once the water is boiling, add the rinsed jasmine rice and stir gently to combine. Then, add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to the pot.

  4. 4

    Simmer

Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan with a lid, and let the rice simmer for about 15 minutes, or until all the water is absorbed and the rice is tender.

  5. 5

    Fluff the Rice

After 15 minutes, remove the saucepan from heat. Let it sit covered for an additional 5 minutes. Then, remove the lid and fluff the rice gently with a fork.

Garnishing

  1. 6

    Chop the Herbs

While the rice is resting, finely chop 2 tablespoons of fresh cilantro or parsley.

  2. 7

    Serve

Once the rice is fluffed, transfer it to a serving bowl and sprinkle the chopped herbs on top for garnish. Serve warm as a side dish.
