Ahi Tuna

Method

Preparing Ahi Tuna

  1. 1

    Prepare the Tuna

Pat the Ahi tuna steaks dry with paper towels. Rub each steak with olive oil, salt, and black pepper. Ensure the tuna is well-coated.

  2. 2

    Sear the Tuna

Heat a skillet over high heat. Once hot, add the tuna steaks. Sear for about 1-2 minutes on each side for rare doneness. Remove from heat and sprinkle sesame seeds on both sides. Let rest for a few minutes before slicing.

Making Seaweed Salad

  1. 3

    Rehydrate the Seaweed

Place dried wakame in a bowl of warm water and let it soak for about 10 minutes until it expands. Drain and squeeze out excess water.

  2. 4

    Combine Salad Ingredients

In a bowl, combine the rehydrated seaweed, thinly sliced cucumber, rice vinegar, soy sauce, sesame oil, and sugar. Toss well to mix all ingredients thoroughly.

  3. 5

    Garnish

Sprinkle sesame seeds on top of the salad for garnish.

Making Asian Sauce

  1. 6

    Mix the Sauce

In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, grated ginger, minced garlic, and chili flakes until well combined.

Serving

  1. 7

    Plate the Dish

Slice the seared Ahi tuna into thin strips. Arrange the tuna slices on a plate alongside a generous portion of seaweed salad. Drizzle the Asian sauce over the tuna and salad. Serve immediately.
