Method

Meatballs Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, eggs, minced garlic, chopped basil, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  2. 2

    Form Meatballs

Using your hands, form the mixture into meatballs about 1.5 inches in diameter and place them on a baking sheet.

  3. 3

    Bake Meatballs

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the meatballs for 20-25 minutes or until they are cooked through and browned.

Red Sauce Preparation

  1. 4

    Sauté Aromatics

In a large saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, chopped basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  3. 6

    Combine Sauce and Meatballs

Once the meatballs are done baking, add them to the red sauce. Simmer together for an additional 10 minutes.

Crostini Preparation

  1. 7

    Prepare Baguette

Brush both sides of the baguette slices with olive oil. Place them on a baking sheet.

  2. 8

    Toast Crostini

Toast in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for about 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove and rub the toasted slices with the whole garlic clove for flavor.

Assembly

  1. 9

    Serve

To serve, place a generous scoop of meatballs with sauce on a plate. Top with ricotta and shredded mozzarella cheese. Garnish with fresh basil. Serve alongside grilled garlic crostini.
