Steak Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Steak

Take the USDA Choice Flat Iron Steak and place it on a cutting board. Pat it dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Sprinkle salt, black pepper, and garlic powder evenly on both sides of the steak.

  2. 2

    Preheat the Pan

In a large skillet or frying pan, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium-high heat until shimmering but not smoking.

  3. 3

    Cook the Steak

Once the oil is hot, carefully place the seasoned flat iron steak in the pan. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side until a nice crust forms. Flip the steak and cook for another 4-5 minutes for medium-rare, or longer if desired.

  4. 4

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from the pan and transfer it to a cutting board. Tent it loosely with aluminum foil and let it rest for about 5 minutes before slicing.

Side Dish Preparation

  1. 5

    Prepare the Vegetables

While the steak rests, wash and chop the vegetable medley into bite-sized pieces.

  2. 6

    Sauté the Vegetables

In the same skillet used for the steak (with leftover oil), add the chopped vegetables. Sauté over medium heat for about 5-7 minutes until tender, stirring occasionally.

Serving

  1. 7

    Plate the Dish

Slice the rested flat iron steak against the grain and serve it on a plate alongside the sautéed vegetable medley.
