Method

Prepare the Potatoes

  1. 1

    Peel and Cut Potatoes

Peel the russet potatoes and cut them into equal-sized chunks, approximately 1-2 inches.

  2. 2

    Boil Potatoes

Place the potato chunks in a large pot and cover with water. Add salt. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat and cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes.

Prepare Garlic and Butter

  1. 3

    Mince Garlic

While the potatoes are boiling, finely mince the garlic cloves.

  2. 4

    Melt Butter

In a small saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 2-3 minutes until fragrant, but not browned.

Whip the Potatoes

  1. 5

    Drain Potatoes

Once the potatoes are tender, drain them well in a colander.

  2. 6

    Combine Ingredients

Return the drained potatoes to the pot. Add the melted garlic butter and heavy cream.

  3. 7

    Whip Potatoes

Using a potato masher or hand mixer, whip the potatoes until smooth and creamy. Adjust texture with more cream if needed.

Season and Serve

  1. 8

    Season

Add black pepper to taste and mix well. Adjust seasoning as needed.

  2. 9

    Garnish and Serve

Transfer the whipped potatoes to a serving bowl, sprinkle with chopped chives, and serve warm.
