Method

Gnocchi Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook Potatoes

Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender. Drain and let cool slightly, then peel and mash until smooth.

  2. 2

    Make Gnocchi Dough

In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, flour, egg, and salt. Mix until a dough forms. If too sticky, add more flour as needed.

  3. 3

    Shape Gnocchi

Divide the dough into portions and roll each into a long rope. Cut into bite-sized pieces and press lightly with a fork to create ridges.

  4. 4

    Cook Gnocchi

Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add the gnocchi and cook until they float to the surface, about 2-3 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon.

Tomato Sauce Preparation

  1. 5

    Heat Olive Oil

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 6

    Add Tomatoes

Stir in the crushed tomatoes and simmer for 15-20 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  3. 7

    Finish Sauce

Add fresh basil to the sauce just before serving, mixing well.

Combine

  1. 8

    Serve

Toss the cooked gnocchi in the tomato sauce until well coated. Serve hot, garnished with additional basil if desired.
